Teen-aged driver causes serious car crash near Bowling Green

Comments Off

A 16-year-old who only had her license for three months caused a head-on collision Sunday that injured a family of five from the Oak Harbor, Ohio, area. The young driver from West Virginia died in the accident.

Five members of the Lutman family were injured in the head-on collision that took place on U.S. 6 in Wood County, according to the Toledo Blade. Amy Lutman, 35, was in critical condition, while her husband Ronald Lutman, and two of their daughters were in serious condition. The Lutman’s 2-year-old was treated and released.

Police said the accident happened when a 16-year-old driver attempted to pass a car in front of her that was traveling the 55 mph speed limit, according to the Blade.

Inexperienced drivers cause a disproportionate share of accidents. Our office has handled a number of these cases, including a negligent entrustment case in which our client prevailed in a jury trial last year. Our thoughts are with the Lutmans and we hope they all make a full recovery.
